The most important aspect of attaining a hunting companion is the dog's own drive for birds; they must love birds. The second is the gun. It is my job to make sure you understand how important it is to introduce the gun to your dog in the correct way:

  • DO NOT take your dog to the gun range to see if they are gun shy
  • DO NOT fire your gun over your dog to see if they are gun shy

In both of these situations you have a high chance of making your dog gun shy. (Or any situations similar to these). There is a process to correctly introduce your dog to the gun and I will gladly be of assistance.

The younger you introduce your dog/puppy to birds the better chance your dog will smoothly finish the gun intro. Getting your dog's instincts out as a puppy results in a much quicker unbridled enthusiasm for birds.
